What a wonderful weekend it was! Four days off in a row is such a treat and makes for just the right amount of time for a weekend; time for fun with friends and family, time for relaxing and time to get things done at home. Just perfect and I wish there were more in our life!
Thursday, the 4th, we were up early because we wanted to catch an early ferry out of Mukilteo to be able to enjoy Langley and have breakfast at the Braeburn. We were successful and made the 9:00 am ferry into Clinton just in time with not much of a wait in the ferry line. Livie enjoyed her second ferry ride (first one being the San Juan Islands last summer) – a quick one, but still always fun. Just enough time to look out the windows at the beautiful scenery and snap a few pictures outside on the deck. She was hamming it up as usual with all of the passengers, running around and giving her huge toothy grin.
We went right into Langley and instantly got a table at the Braeburn, but the kitchen was backed up so we waited for about 45 minutes before we got our food – Livie went through her snacks that I had packed and did so well waiting like a big girl. Jeff did take her out for a little walk to stretch her legs. It was worth the wait – the food was amazing! All fresh and delicious local produce and ingredients. Jeff got the eggs benedict and I got the Saratoga omelette filled with sautéed veggies and goat cheese – it was amaze. Livie helped us both with our plates. Looking forward to going back there next summer! We ate pretty quickly so we could get on our way and let Livie have a change of scenery and nap. We knew that we had only one opportunity for a nap since we would be busy at the Gorski’s playing the rest of the day on the beach (Liv does not nap at new places that she is not familiar with). We ended up walking around Langley for an hour while she napped and it worked out great. We ventured through the quant town, into the marina and onto the docks and made our way into some residential streets on the water and looked at cute little houses and dreamed.
Then it was time to get into Maxwelton, Beach a darling little beach community on the South end of Whidbey where our friends have a house. We loved Maxwelton and can hardly wait to go back and maybe rent a little place out there in the future. Such a great family spot on the beach and considerably closer than the San Juan Islands. Nice change of pace. The cute little town has a 4th of July parade so the road was closed to the house. We ended up having to park out and walk in. We ended up just getting there and the parade was ending, but we met up with our friends and walked to the house from there. Jeff went back for the car later in the day.
The rest of the day was spent playing on the beach, playing volleyball, eating and drinking yummy treats and ending the day with an awesome BBQ at the house. It was a great day and Livie never stopped moving. She was all over the place. When Jeff was playing volleyball I could barely contain her from going onto the court with everyone. Livie also loved the sand and had a ball playing in it with the other kids. It was a very fun day and a very exhausting day. We spend the entire day on our feet chasing after her and not getting much time to sit and rest or hold adult conversations, but everyone understood.
By 8 pm we knew it was time to call it a day and catch the ferry home. Livie was so exhausted – the minute the car got moving she was out. Sweet little girl.
When we arrived home it was pretty much a war zone. So many fireworks in our neighborhood – we spend some time watching them for a bit and then it was time to head to bed. I hadn’t been that tired in a long time. I can’t get over how much people spend on fireworks – it is nuts.
Friday we were back on the road and traveled down to Olympia to visit my parents for an overnight. We had a delicious fish dinner al fresco on the deck Friday evening together and enjoyed the perfect weather and company. Saturday Jeff left early to head to Indian Summer for a golf tournament with a family friend. While Jeff was away we played outside, went on a walk, played at the playfield, Livie saw bunnies and tons of hummingbirds on my parent’s deck.
It was a nice relaxing day of just hanging out around the house. Once Jeff was done with golf for the day we packed up and headed back home where we enjoyed a casual pizza dinner at home.
Sunday we worked on things around the house and Livie got to go and see her other grandparents for a couple of hours which gave us a little break. It was nice to get a few things done before the busy work week and what a treat for her to get so much grandparent time! She had such a fun weekend and we loved being able to spend so much time with her. Monday was hard leaving her after so much time together, it always is.
Looking forward to another weekend coming up! We are going to an engagement party for Jeff’s good friend and a possible BBQ at a co-workers house after that – summer is so busy! I just hope we get lots of time outside playing in the sun! Have a great rest of your week!
